Planet Fitness is offering a free summer membership program for High Schoolers ages 14 – 19 including a chance for scholarships. This may be a good resource for parents of teens.

How it Works

There’s a $3,000 annual maximum for each member of your family. The plan covers diagnostic, preventive, basic and major services at 100% at any in-network Delta Dental provider. The deductible costs just $5 for individuals and a maximum of $10 families. The deductible is paid once for the plan year. The Community Benefit Plan helps working individuals and families across the state of Kansas with income less than or equal to 250% of the federal poverty limit. The head of the household must be employed but family members do not have access to dental insurance by traditional means. Those enrolled in government dental programs are eligible for enrollment.

Dial 2-1-1 and ask to apply for the Delta Dental Community Benefit Plan. United Way of the Plains will provided additional details on the plan, determine if you are eligible and get you set up!

New Grants for your Doctoral Students

The National Council for Mental Wellbeing is proud to announce applications are open for the 2022 Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) USA Doctoral Student Grants. These grants represent a commitment by the National Council to grow the research behind and evaluation of all MHFA programs. Each year, the grant provides a one-time award of $5,000 to four outstanding full-time doctoral students who demonstrate significant potential as researchers in their fields of study and who are interested in evaluating the outcomes of MHFA trainings in the U.S.

The application for this year’s grants is due May 27, 2022. If you know a student who might be interested in this opportunity, please pass this message along.

  • MHFA is an evidence-based training course that teaches participants to recognize and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges and crises. Participants learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and substance use challenges, strategies for helping someone in crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. The program is built on a strong foundation of international research. The National Council has trained more than 2.7 million people nationwide, in all 50 states and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico and Guam.

Qualified grant applicants will:

  • Be full-time doctoral student pursuing a degree in psychology, public health, or related field of study.

  • Have previous evaluation experience and demonstrated ability to document findings through publications and/or presentations.

  • Have documented experience with MHFA (e.g., as an MHFA Instructor or Coordinator) and/or strong interest in MHFA.
