WERAP and KERA Come to an EndWichita's Emergency Rental Assistance Program (WERAP) is no longer accepting any new applications as of September 28th. Additionally, Kansas Emergency Rental Assistance (KERA) entered its Hold Phase this week and is currently processing new applications at this time. Both programs were funded through two COVID relief bills, the CARES Act and the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). More than 33,300 Kansas families were offered assistance between the two programs. FREE weatherization kit and winter coat (adult sizes only .Weatherization kits will help in keeping your house warm and your energy bill low throughout the winter.




Storytime Village – Register to get a free 10” android tablet. Thanks to a donation by NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, Storytime Village in partnership with Moolah Wireless is distributing free 10” Android tablets to qualifying families.

Families must qualify for free or reduced lunch to receive a tablet. Only one (1) tablet per family.

You can register at storytimevillage.org. The deadline to register is Friday, October 21.

Tablet distribution is Saturday, November 19 from 10am to 4pm at Century II.




Candy Crawl at Clapp Park – Free family-friendly event

The Wichita Police Department and Wichita Park & Recreation are teaming up this Halloween to bring you the Candy Crawl at Clapp Park!

The Candy Crawl will take place at Clapp Park (4611 E Harry St.) on October 28 from 6-8pm.

This free family-friendly event encourages everyone to dress up, grab your candy bag or bucket, and come visit local law enforcement, emergency personnel, park & rec staff, and local businesses and organizations for candy and prizes.

Children and their families will follow a one-way route through Clapp Park stopping at vendors booths to collect their treats while listening to DJ KJ Entertainment. Event map and vendors will be posted soon.

WICHITA, Kan. The Salvation Army announced its south central area command will soon begin its winter clothing distribution at Salvation Army locations in Wichita, as well as Wichita Par and Recreation facilities.

The Warm Hearts Distribution of coats and winter wear starts Monday, Oct. 17 and continues through Friday, Oct. 21. Distribution sites and hours of operation include the following Salvation Army locations:

  • Downtown Koch Center, 350 N Market St. Downtown Wichita – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Citadel Corps Community Center, 1739 S. Elpyco – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • West Orchard Community Center, 1910 S Everett – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

and the following Wichita Park and Recreation locations:

  • Boston | 6655 E Zimmerly

  • Evergreen | 2700 N Woodland

  • Brewer | 1329 E 16th St

  • Linwood | 1901 S Kansas

  • Colvin | 2820 S Roosevelt Orchard | 4808 W 9th St

  • Edgemoor | 5815 E 9th St Woodard | 2750 E 18th St

“Items available will include coats, sweaters, and blankets. While supplies last, quantities are limited to items available, and limits may apply,” the Salvation Army said. “Families are asked to provide IDs for everyone in their household.”

Applications for Christmas Assistance for the Angel Tree and Start of Hope Campaign also begin Monday, Oct. 17. The Salvation Army said it will be taking applications from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday through Nov. 16.
